Meet The Team

Mark Ashfield

Founder / Executive Director

A CFO & accountant by day, Mark is just a big kid at heart, and his passion for supporting youth has inspired him to organize child and family-friendly charity events since 1996. In 2009, he founded the Superheroes of Victoria Volunteer Society and has been proud to watch it grow over the years.

His role as Exec. Director has him mostly working on developing/maintaining the partnerships and collaborations for the group. But he often has his hands busy working on projects with the build team and often suiting up for charity events himself.

Mark has been recognized with over two dozen philanthropic awards including an Honourary Citizen Award from the City of Victoria, and multiple National Philanthropy Awards. He also holds the position of Board Member and Finance Committee chair for the BC Council for Families, as well as Board Member for the Canadian Mental Health Association Cowichan Valley Branch.

Greg Foster

Volunteer Director

Greg has been suiting up as a Superheroes of Victoria volunteer since 2014, and has been proudly serving as the organization’s Volunteer Director since 2023. “Applying my passion for helping people with this group has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” he says of his time with the Superheroes. “I just want to do some good in the world. That’s really all it takes to be a hero.” Greg was selected as the organization’s Volunteer of the Year for 2022.

When he’s not battling evil with the Superheroes, Greg uses his secret identity as a personal trainer and martial arts instructor to empower people to be heroes in their own lives.

Victoria Bielert

Operations Director

Victoria Bielert is a new addition to the Superheroes of Victoria board, but she has already made a lasting impression.

Victoria’s superpower is juggling the roles of several people, while her kryptonite is sitting still. Outside of costume, Victoria is a medical office administrator, business owner, and event coordinator.

Since joining the Supers in 2024, Victoria has attended many events and brought her talents in costume design and repair, event coordination, and social networking, earning her the 2024 Volunteer of the Year award. She was integral to the Super’s 15th Anniversary celebration and her no-nonsense attitude has ensured volunteers don’t forget to take care of themselves while helping at events. She joined the Supers with a desire to help people and make a difference in her community, and she plans to do so for many years.

Sonia Nicholson

Marketing Director

Sonia Nicholson is an archivist, executive assistant, and published author, with a passion for communications and public outreach. Most importantly, she is a storyteller at her core. A lover of languages, she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and Spanish from the University of Victoria, supplemented by professional development in several areas including archival practice, occupational health and safety, history, diplomacy, non-profit operations, communication, and museums.

After attending a Supers story time event at a library, she couldn’t get the idea of being a superhero out of her head, (much to her surprise). As soon as she pulled on the spandex for the first time, her insecurities vanished and she was hooked. She is excited to apply her motto, “Using my words for good,” to sharing the amazing work of the Superheroes of Victoria with the world.

Leo Ambriz

Social Media Coordinator

“With great power comes great responsibility”, a quote Leonardo Ernesto Ambriz takes to heart everyday. Leonardo wears many hats in his life as family man, employee, actor, director, artist, and Superhero of Victoria. Joining the Supers in May 2023, he has became a recurring member of the team who attempts to make every event possible. Suiting up as a superhero isn’t why he does what he does, though. Helping people no matter the age is what matters to him most, and bringing hope and inspiration back to society is a personal goal of his. With that drive and his heart, Leonardo received the Super of the Year award during his first year with the supers.

He was also appointed as Marketing Coordinator, helping with social media platforms for the group. This entails making TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook posts. Leonardo was even put in charge of the Supers 15 year anniversary video due to his filming background.
